Melissa Barnosky Is 2019 State Oratorical Champ
This is the second year in a row that Melissa has won the title. Melissa competed against four other finalists from a cross section of the state in the 82nd Annual American Legion Department of New York Oratorical Contest. Congratulations to Melissa Barnosky of Orleans County who is the winner of the 2019 District 8 Oratorical Contest held at the Brounshidle Post on January 13. Second place went to Shawn Calmus of Wyoming County. They will be going on to compete in the Zone competition in February
The purpose of The American Legion’s National High School Oratorical Contest is to develop a deeper knowledge and appreciation of the Constitution of the United States on the part of high school students. Other objectives of the contest include the development of leadership qualities, the ability to think and speak clearly and intelligently, and the preparation for acceptance of the duties and responsibilities, the rights and privileges of American citizenship.
